Xtract One Technologies (TSX: XTRA) (OTCQX: XTRAF) (FRA: 0PL) SmartGateway patron screening technology has been included in the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) 2023 approved product list.
The company said on Tuesday that its technology had gone through a rigorous testing by Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory, which is the nation’s largest university-affiliated research centre, on behalf of the TSA.
The SmartGateway is designed to streamline the process of patron screening in high throughput venues.
It offers a fast, reliable and precise alternative to traditional metal detectors, ensuring enhanced security. By employing AI-powered sensors, this system discreetly scans individuals entering your facility for prohibited items such as guns and knives.
SmartGateway transforms security operations from a reactive approach to a proactive one, enabling a more efficient and effective response to potential threats. It enhances patron safety without compromising their overall experience, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable visit.

SmartGateway prioritizes patron privacy and company
By automating certain security tasks, it reduces unnecessary labour, allowing security personnel to focus efforts where they are most impactful. This optimization of resources enhances the patron experience, fostering loyalty and increasing the likelihood of conversions.
It prioritizes the privacy and comfort of your patrons while effectively detecting potential threats. SmartGateway is particularly well-suited for stadiums and ticketed venues that require efficient and secure entry of large crowds, while adhering to established security standards.
During the testing process, the system was subjected to various threat items and scenarios, highlighting its reliability and performance across a wide range of applications. Furthermore, stringent third-party validation is a mandatory requirement for technology vendors serving professional sports leagues.
“With the rigorous testing conducted at Johns Hopkins University, we have evaluated Xtract One’s documented and published specifications for their SmartGateway patron screening solution,” said Mona Espinosa, chief public area security and infrastructure protection (PASIP) for the TSA.
“Our objective is to test and identify approved technology solutions which have been assessed to ensure their claims are supported by their technology’s functionality.”
Xtract Technologies shares rose 12.3 per cent to $0.91 on Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Security devices come at a premium
In response to a rise in violence towards staff, hospitals across the country have implemented enhanced security measures. Temple Hospital, for instance, has adopted Evolv Technology‘s (NASDAQ: EVLV) Evolv Express systems to screen visitors at four of its entrances. These systems help ensure the safety of both patients and staff by efficiently and effectively screening individuals entering the premises.
Evolv Express uses powerful sensor technology with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide safer, more accurate threat detection at unprecedented volume and speed.
In November, Pearson Airport in Toronto became the inaugural Canadian airport to test the Hexwave walkthrough security detection portal from Liberty Defense Holdings Ltd (TSXV: SCAN) (OTCQB: LDDFF).
During this trial, the company conducted voluntary screening in multiple areas, including an employee section and an entrance from the terminal parking garage, located at the airport perimeter.
