MattressFirm and iHeartMedia (NASDAQ:IHRT) celebrated International Podcast Day with the launch of a new podcast series called “Chasing Sleep.”

Host Anahad O’Connor explores the sleep routines of extraordinary people leading extraordinary lives, such as astronauts, ultra-marathon runners and ER doctors.

“Our mission at Mattress Firm is to help people sleep well so they live well. There is no uniform solution to achieving that, in fact, it’s vastly different for everyone. That’s why we’re thrilled to work with iHeartPodcasts to tell eight fascinating stories of people with atypical sleep situations in hope of inspiring others,” said Mickey Mericle, chief marketing and experience officer at Mattress Firm.

iHeartMedia is an American audio media company which reaches over 90 per cent of Americans every month with a portfolio of consumer brands. iHeart’s broadcast radio assets alone have more reach in the United States than any other media outlet, including twice the reach of the next largest competitor, and over four times the ad-enabled reach of the largest digital only audio service.

Chasing Sleep

Mattress Firm is a mattress specialty retailer with over 2,300 stores. It carries leading brands like Beautyrest, Nectar, Sealy, Serta, Simmons, Stearns & Foster, Tempur-Pedic, Tuft & Needle, tulo, and Purple. It also runs Sleep.com and has a Sleep.com app for free sleep tracking and insights to help improve sleep.

The series will run for eight episodes released weekly from September to November of 2022. The podcast features performance requirements in environments where quality rest and recuperation are compromised, and showcase techniques used to adapt.

The first episode featured ultra-marathon runner YiOu Wang and neurophysiologist Dr. Louisa Nicola in a discussion about the rest and recuperation required to perform in ultra-marathon races, which commonly run in excess of 100 miles. Wang’s story and habits display an alternative to today’s narrative of sleep not being top priority.

Other guests will include:

  • Diane Macedo: A news anchor who needs to be rested to accurately report the news.
  • Doctor George Russo: Doctor Russo shares his experiences regarding not only his patients health but himself through regular discipline of his sleep schedule.
  • Leroy Chiao: A former astronaut who takes listeners through the unique challenges of sleeping in zero gravity while in space.

The series features expert commentary, as well as from Mattress Firm sleep advisors.
