Sleep Country Canada has completed its acquisition of Sleep Number’s (NASDAQ: SNBR) business through a court-supervised sale.
Announced on Monday, the deal increases Sleep Country’s network to more than 800 locations. It also makes the company’s Family of Brands the world’s second-largest sleep retailer. Additionally, the acquisition combines Sleep Country’s retail operations with Sleep Number’s personalized sleep technology and smart-bed expertise.
Chief executive Stewart Schaefer called the transaction a transformational step for the company.
He said Sleep Number built a respected brand through innovation, customer service and products designed to improve sleep quality. Schaefer added that Sleep Country looks forward to welcoming Sleep Number employees and combining the organizations.
Meanwhile, leaders from both companies worked together during the sale process to reduce disruption for customers and employees while preparing for the integration. The companies said that cooperative approach will continue as planning advances over the coming months.
Furthermore, Schaefer said the company will keep serving customers with the same focus on quality, expert advice and customer care while learning from both organizations as integration work continues.
He said company leaders also plan to build relationships across the combined workforce before making longer-term operational decisions.
Subsequently, customers can expect continued support and service from the brands they already know while integration activities move ahead. The company said it will release additional information about integration plans as those efforts progress and appropriate updates become available.

Analyst coverage is generally favourable
Sleep Country’s acquisition of Sleep Number could strengthen its long-term growth profile, according to themes that have emerged in historical analyst coverage from major Canadian investment banks.
RBC Capital Markets has generally viewed Sleep Country Canada as a high-quality specialty retailer with consistent cash generation. Analysts have typically focused on same-store sales, margins and the company’s ability to deploy capital into long-term growth opportunities.
Additionally, Canaccord Genuity has emphasized Sleep Country’s market leadership, execution and expansion strategy, while monitoring consumer spending trends and housing activity that influence mattress demand. National Bank Financial has also historically followed the retailer, with analysts generally pointing to its resilient margins, free cash flow and acquisition strategy as key investment strengths.
The Sleep Number acquisition aligns with many of those long-standing investment themes by expanding Sleep Country’s scale. This adds proprietary sleep technology and gives the company a larger North American footprint. However, analysts will likely shift their attention toward integration costs and debt reduction once management provides additional financial details.
