Crazy video shows car exploding near New York’s Wall Street bull statue

Run for your lives!!!

A car exploded near Wall Street’s Charging Bull statue on Tuesday evening, disrupting the financial district during rush hour.

The alarming incident occurred around 5:42 p.m. near Broadway and Stone Street, just steps from the infamous bronze beast. The vehicle, linked to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, caught fire and then detonated. It produced a large fireball and heavy black smoke visible across Lower Manhattan.

Emergency crews responded quickly and contained the blaze after about an hour and a half. No injuries were reported despite the heavy pedestrian traffic in the tourist-heavy area. Authorities have attributed the blast to a mechanical issue, likely a fuel tank rupture due to the initial fire. They have ruled out any criminal or terrorist involvement.

Videos circulating online captured the sudden escalation, with bystanders moving away from the scene as flames intensified. The Charging Bull, installed in Bowling Green in 1989, stands as one of the most recognisable landmarks in global finance. Positioned at the heart of New York’s financial district, the explosion occurred in an area packed with offices, traders and visitors near the New York Stock Exchange.

While markets had been relatively stable amid recent earnings reports, the event briefly drew attention to the physical risks present in the capital of capitalism.

This was not the worst explosion New York City has seen since the September 11, 2001 attacks, which caused massive loss of life and long-term economic disruption. The 2016 Chelsea bombing and 2014 East Harlem gas explosion were much worse. Tuesday’s incident resulted in no casualties or lasting damage to infrastructure.

The proximity of the blast to such a prominent global finance hub highlights ongoing economic risks and potential volatility.

New York City’s Charging Bull statue was created by Italian sculptor Arturo Di Modica in direct response to the 1987 Black Monday stock market crash. It is intended to be a powerful symbol of financial optimism, economic resilience and the enduring power of the American people to overcome adversity.
