Chatham-Kent Police seize $6.1M worth of illegal cannabis plants in bust

The warrant was executed last Friday on a property in Story Street

The Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence section executed a search warrant and uncovered an estimated $6.1 million worth of illicit cannabis plants in Blenheim.

In a statement released on Monday, the police department disclosed that on the preceding Friday, they successfully seized a variety of cannabis plants in various stages of growth, thanks to the assistance of the K9 Unit.

Two individuals in their forties, one hailing from Blenheim and the other from Toronto, were apprehended and charged with the cultivation of illegal cannabis, in violation of Section 12(4)(a) of the Cannabis Act. Following their arrests, the two men have since been released and are scheduled to make a court appearance on October 12th.

Between September 2020 and January 2021, the police service shut down four major illegal grow operations with more than 25,000 illegal cannabis plants seized worth $25.5 million.

In January 2021, the CKPS Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant at a property on Richmond Street in Chatham. Around 8,500 illegal plants were seized with a total street value of $8.6 million. A second Richmond Street property was searched and 9,000 plants were seized worth $9 million.
