A limited edition Fitbit has arrived with a dozing Pikachu on the strap, timed to celebrate Pokémon’s 30th anniversary.
Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOGL) (LON: 0RIH) announced the Fitbit Air Special Edition Pokémon Sleep on Aug. 27, opening pre-orders the same day through the Google Store and Target Corp (NYSE: TGT) (FRA: DYH). Shipments begin in mid-September. The US$129 tracker, sold only in the United States and Japan, builds on the standard Fitbit Air that launched in May and gives fans a themed piece of hardware rather than any brand new tech features.
The device is a slim, screenless band built for comfortable 24-hour wear. Its micro-adjustable “Sleepy Blue” strap carries a subtle silk print of sleeping Pikachu. A sensor pebble records movement, heart rate and cardio by day before tracking sleep stages and duration at night. Algorithms in the Google Health app convert those readings into insights on light and deep sleep, and every purchase includes a three month trial of Google Health Premium. Each special addition strap bought also gives the user a one-time serial code for a Pikachu Incense, a single-use item that draws a Pikachu to Snorlax’s campsite.
Once linked, the tracker simply feeds existing sleep data into the Pokémon Sleep app via Health Connect on Android or Apple Health on iOS. Overnight rest and daytime naps generate a Sleep Score. That score multiplies Snorlax’s strength into Drowsy Power. Higher scores draw more Pokémon, and rarer sleep styles, to the campsite Snorlax catches its Z’s in the next morning. This lets players research habits, fill their Sleep Style Dex and recruit helper Pokémon. The integration itself already works with every Google Pixel and Fitbit wearable; the themed gadget merely wraps the familiar partnership in anniversary packaging.
Pokémon Sleep first appeared in July 2023 after its 2019 announcement, turning ordinary nights into a research project centred on a giant, perpetually sleepy Snorlax/Kabigon. Even without the new band the game runs fully on ordinary smartphones and pairs with Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, Google Pixel Watch and a wide range of other Fitbits.
Among the most familiar sleepy Pokémon, aside from Pikachu and Snorlax, Psyduck stands out for its constant headaches and confused expression while Slowpoke drifts through life in a permanent, dopey haze. Whether you choose the special edition wristband or simply your phone, sleeping well is what helps attract the best Pokémon.
