Pop’s Cannabis Co. is the first company to open a store in Mississauga after regulations banning retail cannabis shops were modified last April.

The store is located in Clarkson Crossing at 960 Southdown Rd Unit C7 and is aiming to open a second location in Applewood Hills Plaza soon.

“We’re excited to introduce a fresh, unique, and accessible cannabis experience to the residents of Mississauga,” says Ryan Dymond, President of Pop’s.

“Our commitment lies in education, safety, and providing quick, convenient service that helps our customers make informed decisions about cannabis consumption.”

On April 19, the City of Mississauga opted into permitting authorized cannabis retail stores in its municipality. The city had placed a ban on shops since 2018 until the council voted 8-4 to allow the stores and one of Ontario’s largest municipalities.

The Ontario Cannabis Shop supported the decision saying this will help displace illegal market shops in the city.

In 2021, the province shut down the opportunity of cannabis retail after expressing concerns over the possible “clustering of stores.

Other companies looking to open cannabis shops that are under Public Notice include Tough Bud Cannabis, Crown Leaf, Buzzed Buds, Canna Cabana by High Tide Inc. (NASDAQ: HITI) (TSXV: HITI) (FSE: 2LYA).

Other retail shops whose application is in progress include Moonwlkr, The Woods, Flowertown Cannabis, Purple Tree Cannabis, Wow World of Weed and a second Canna Cabana.
