Planet Based Foods Global (CSE:PBF) (OTCQB:PBFFF) subsidiary Planet Based Foods finished its first grocery distribution with American retail giant, Kroger (NYSE:KR) on Tuesday.

The company’s new vegan, gluten-free, plant-based products have landed in the frozen aisle at 700 Kroger stores across 10 states.

“We’re introducing consumers to hemp as a superfood protein by featuring our plant-based meat in craveable and familiar formats like taquitos. Consumers are looking for convenient, plant-based options that they can easily heat for a quick snack or meal, and we’re delivering,” said Braelyn Davis, CEO and co-founder of Planet Based Foods.

Planet Based Foods makes non-GMO, nutrient dense food plant-based food. The company’s production process uses hemp seed, pea protein and brown rice to maintain nutrients and fiber. Founded in 2019, the company has introduced products including frozen foods and plant-based meat.

The Kroger partnership is the company’s biggest retail distribution expansion yet. Planet Based Foods’ products can also be found at New Seasons Market and New Leaf Community Markets, as well as online at Amazon.com and planetbasedfoods.com.

“We need a new paradigm that prioritizes regenerative ingredients like hemp that restore soil health and fight climate change by storing carbon. Building Planet Based Foods into a successful, better-for-you brand is our path to demonstrate consumer demand for hemp as a nutritious, sustainable ingredient that can fuel the future of food,” said Davis.

The original and southwest taquitos have 4 grams of protein per serving and showcase the company’s hemp-based superfood crumble. Hemp also is a complete protein with all nine essential amino acids. Additionally, the company’s products are GMO-free, soy free and gluten free.

The company’s present position is the culmination of six years of research and development regarding the proper uses of hemp seed in plant-based meat food. In addition to extending its retail reach, the company is focused on its innovation pipeline and plans to introduce new food and beverage products using hemp IP in the next two years.
