Liberty Defense offers AI to secure Texas correctional facilities

HEXWAVE uses millimeter wave, advanced 3D imaging, and AI to detect concealed metallic and non-metallic threats

Liberty Defense Holdings Ltd. (TSXV: SCAN) (OTCQB: LDDFF) (FRANKFURT: LD2A) and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) have joined forces to make correctional facilities a bit safer.

The department announced on Monday that it selected Liberty’s HEXWAVE system to screen both staff and visitors entering correctional facilities. The award is for 20 Hexwave units to be used in facilities throughout the state.

One of Liberty’s distribution partners, Viken Detection, received the order after LINEV Systems U.S. won the contract in a competitive public tender in the State of Texas. The HEXWAVE units will be deployed at the screening entrances to enhance contraband detection capabilities.

The purpose behind selecting Liberty’s tech is to secure its facilities, but also to minimize entry wait times and ensure the safest and most secure access for everyone entering the facilities.

TDCJ supervises approximately 155,000 incarcerated inmates. The Texas Department of Corrections operates 51 state prisons and several other facilities for inmates. Their mission is to provide public safety, promote positive change in inmate behaviour, reintegrate inmates into society, and assist crime victims.

“The ability of HEXWAVE to safely and effectively screen visitors for non-metallic and metallic threats was a key decision for the award along with the small footprint and best value versus current offerings,” said Bill Frain, CEO of Liberty Defense.

“We continue to see more demand for comprehensive threat detection in multiple market verticals like corrections, aviation worker screening, and government facilities, among others.”

The AI boom is offering multiple developmental angles

Liberty Defense uses millimeter wave, advanced 3D imaging, and AI to detect concealed metallic and non-metallic threats. The system rapidly and automatically screens individuals using a high-throughput, contactless, walkthrough portal.

It detects liquid, powder, and plastic explosives, 3D-printed ghost guns, and other contraband that enhanced metal detectors on the market do not detect.

The technology easily fits into current security setups, making it useful for places like airports, stadiums, and prisons. Its non-invasive technology protects privacy while keeping security high, and its advanced AI constantly updates to recognize new threats.

The system increases safety and the screening process, reducing delays and improving the experience for security staff and the public.

The emergence of artificial intelligence has profoundly impacted multiple industries, revolutionizing security, healthcare, and finance.

In security, AI enhances threat detection and response times, making systems like HEXWAVE more effective in identifying concealed threats.

In healthcare, companies like IBM (NYSE: IBM) use AI assists to save lives.  It helps diagnose diseases, personalize treatment plans, and improving patient outcomes through predictive analytics.

Then there’s the prospect of artificial general intelligence (AGI) lurking somewhere in the future.

Vancouver-based AI company Verses AI (CBOE:VERS) (OTCQB:VRSSF) defines AGI as a type of AI that possesses the ability to understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks at a level comparable to human intelligence.

Systems like Hexwave are what Verses would call narrow AI, which excels in specific tasks.

AGI would demonstrate flexibility, reasoning, and problem-solving capabilities similar to those of a human.  This would allow it to adapt to various contexts and challenges with general understanding and competence.
