The health tech startup Hunna Technology is set to revolutionize its leadership structure by replacing its CEO with a unique system that blends artificial intelligence with human insight to steer the company’s operations.

The United Kingdom-based company announced Monday it will be testing the IndigoVX AI system for 12 months before officially promoting “it” as CEO. Hunna is headquartered in the United Kingdom and its main product is Mona, a medical AI system that uses home urine for early detection of some health conditions.

CTO and co-founder of Hunna Kais Dukes said the system has surpassed his expectations and successfully identified under-explored markets, optimized resource allocation and accurately forecasted consumer trends, with an over 90 per cent successful decision rate.

“I stepped down as CEO in July because I believe an AI supervised by humans can outperform me.”, Hunna co-founder Ahmed Lazem said.

“She hasn’t failed us.”

Hunna said that so far, AI has defined an executable strong and realistic business strategy. It was also instrumental in identifying the startup idea at the very beginning.

The company has published a research paper in the open-access journal arXiv to explain the system. According to the paper, the system can also be applied to games and business strategies with the human giving context and the AI system offering data-driven actions.

The system operates in an iterative feedback loop that uses a person’s contextual knowledge but uses AI insights to refine strategies.

Hunna says the IndigoVX AI system has been a crucial tool in conducting key research for discussions about launching medical AI on a national scale in the UAE. It played a significant role in choosing the UAE as the initial target market. Also, the system has become an integral part of daily business operations, assisting in all processes.

“Our AI CEO isn’t fully automated, but we see that as a strength, not a weakness. For this reason, we feel it’s justified to give the system a CEO title, as ultimately it’s the algorithm calling the shots, even though the algorithm has a human component,” wrote the company in a statement.

The company says that calling IndigoVX a CEO isn’t just giving the system a title but it’s about partially automating the role of a CEO, to guide the overall operations of the company.
