Opera’s (NASDAQ:OPRA) gaming browser subsidiary and the social media giant, TikTok, have put together the international #GamingForAll Challenge on TikTok to benefit inclusivity nonprofit AbleGamers. Opera GX wants to enable all users to get their game on regardless of their goals or abilities. That’s why it’s partnered with BlindWarriorSven, a visually-impaired Street Fighter champion, to inspire gamers to push to succeed regardless of their personal challenges.
“This collaboration between Sven, Opera GX, TikTok, and AbleGamers allows us to encourage gamers to overcome their personal obstacles, while having fun, challenging themselves, and raising money for charity. Sven is an inspiration to us all,” said Maciej Kocemba, product director of Opera GX.
Opera GX was launched in 2019 and has since become the browser for millions of gamers. It includes customization options that others don’t have, including color themes, sound effects, background music, and gaming inspired design. The browser also includes CPU, RAM and network bandwidth limiters, which make it a lean running machine and open up more of the computer’s resources for gaming. It also comes with a Hot Tabs Killer feature, which lets users close the most resource intensive tabs, and GX Cleaner, which purposes unwanted files.
Real life pinball wizard
Sven van de Wege is at the core of this campaign. BlindWarriorSven is a blind professional gamer who lost his sight to cancer at six years old. Sven discovered he couldn’t play games the way he used too when he got home from the hospital. He listened rather than give up and learned he could still feel his way through the game by sound.
He could hear the fireballs and the rising uppercuts, the kicks and punches, and jumps, and he started playing again. It took awhile but he taught himself to play Street Fighter by memory and hearing and overcame his challenges.
Sven’s story inspired Opera to launch its Opera GX#GamingForAll Challenge. The challenge is for gamers to play their favourite games without using their sight. For every upload on TikTok, the brand will donate USD$0.5 to AbleGamers. Madrid-based ad agency Officer & Gentlemen is launching a promotional video featuring BlindWarriorSven to promote the challenge.
The challenge has also received support from theScore Esports platform, which is sponsoring a live event on October 2 in Amsterdam where participants can challenge Sven in Street Fighter V.
