Snow sports enthusiasts will now be able to buy a joint or edibles at the popular ski town of Whistler after the first cannabis store was inaugurated this week by A Little Bud.

The soft opening was on Wednesday at 1-1050 Millar Creek Road in the Function Junction community. However, A Little Bud is planning a grand opening celebration on October 21. The company also has Penticton, White Rock, Duncan and Summerland locations.

“We are exceptionally proud to become an integral part of the Whistler community and to pioneer the emerging cannabis tourism scene in this breathtaking region,” A Little Bud owner Randy Tingskou said.

“A Little Bud is not just a retail store; it’s a destination where both cannabis enthusiasts and inquisitive visitors can explore the world of cannabis products in a secure and welcoming environment.”

On June 20, Resort Municipality of Whistler’s (RMOW) mayor and council voted to allow four temporary use permits for cannabis retail applications including two in the Village and one each in Function Junction and Creekside.

Besides A Little Bud, other stores approved include This is Cannabis, which will be in the Village Centre, Main Street THC Canada in Village North and Spiritleaf Whistle in Creekside.

Municipalities like the District of North Vancouver, New Westminster and Port Coquitlam have gone the route of issuing TUPs, or what’s called “site-specific” zoning. Others like the City of Vancouver have added cannabis retail use to commercial zones.
