Edinburgh’s Krotos, a sound design technology developer, has created a useful new tool for content creators that could help streamline workflows significantly. The company describes it as the world’s first commercial image-to-sound feature powered by AI.
It is the newest addition to the audio specialist’s Ambience Generator Version 2 software.
The tool enables users to upload an image that gets analyzed by artificial intelligence, which creates a descriptive prompt that can be tweaked by the user.
“The prompt is then used to search through thousands of professionally recorded sounds, suggesting the perfect audio ambience to match the visual input,” the company’s public relations manager, Hunter Williams, said in a statement sent to Mugglehead.
Krotos charges about US$10 per month for the basic version of its flagship Krotos Studio package and US$23.33 for the pro version. This software and its newest feature can be seamlessly integrated into Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple’s Final Cut Pro software, DaVinci Resolve as well as other video and audio editing programs.

Krotos tech was used for Game of Thrones dragon
The company’s sound editing software has been used in multiple high-profile productions.
Its usage for Viserion the ice dragon in the immensely popular 2010s series, Game of Thrones, is one of the most notable. The fantasy beast’s sound repertoire was created with the audio expert’s Reformer software.
Last year, Krotos received Videomaker magazine’s “Best Audio Software” award.
“Krotos has opened up creativity to content creators and video editors as well as audio specialists,” the content creation publication said.
Krotos completed a 7-figure funding round led by the Greek venture capital firm Metavallon in 2022. The exact amount was undisclosed.
Other famous productions Krotos has contributed to include the 2019 remake of The Lion King, Stranger Things and The Lord of the Rings. Furthermore, the company’s tech has been utilized for video games such as Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3.
Krotos was founded in 2013.
