Yes, the name of one of the most famous punk bands of all time is apparently a reference to the first time Armstrong got high.
Fast forward nearly three decades, and Green Day’s other founding member has his bass-playing hands in the now multi-billion dollar cannabis industry.
Mike Dirnt announced Thursday that Goldenseed, a California cannabis and hemp company, is the first private U.S. cultivator qualified by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to sell stock to the general public.
Anyone wanting to own stock in the privately held farm, can purchase common shares in the company for US$10 a pop, with a minimum buy of US$100. The current offering is for up to US$10 million, according to the press release.
Dirnt has been an investor, brand ambassador and advisor with Goldenseed since 2001.
If you’re a diehard fan, you’ve probably seen Dirnt posting pictures of himself on Instagram with big bags of bud.
You might also know he has a more personal stake in the business, as his wife is a self-proclaimed cannabis success story. In a surprisingly tasteful promotional video, Brittney Cade Dirnt tells the story about how medical cannabis helped her get through rounds of chemo and surgery.
“I have a recreational and medicinal history with cannabis, from growing up in Northern California. I know Goldenseed respects the history of this plant and also honors the future of how this industry is growing,” the bassist said. “And on the recreational side, it’s damned good weed!”
The brand is endorsed by other famous faces, with Drinking Made Easy’s Zane Lamrey also listed as an investor on the company’s website.
