BTCS Inc. (NASDAQ: BTCS) has expanded its decentralized finance business onto Base, an Ethereum Layer-2 network developed by Coinbase.
The blockchain infrastructure company announced the expansion on Tuesday through its Imperium decentralized finance business. Base operates on top of Ethereum and processes transactions outside the main blockchain to improve speed and reduce costs. Additionally, BTCS said the move represents Imperium’s first expansion beyond the Ethereum mainnet.
Imperium deploys digital assets into blockchain-based financial protocols to generate revenue for BTCS. The company currently uses Ethereum and stablecoins for those activities. Imperium participates in decentralized lending, borrowing and liquidity pools, among other financial activities. In addition, BTCS can move assets between different protocols as market conditions and potential returns change.
Chief executive officer Charles Allen said the expansion forms part of a broader multi-chain strategy. BTCS wants to provide liquidity across different networks as transaction volumes and demand shift. Furthermore, Allen said the strategy could provide scalable revenue with relatively high margins.
Imperium has also expanded the amount of capital deployed through paired liquidity pools during the third quarter. BTCS reported approximately USD$8 million deployed in those pools at the end of the second quarter. The company now has approximately USD$36 million deployed, representing an increase of about 350 per cent.
Consequently, Allen said the company believes Imperium can exceed its USD$6 million gross profit target for 2026. The company launched Imperium in 2025 as a separate business line focused on decentralized finance. Unlike traditional staking, the operation does not depend primarily on protocol-defined rewards from holding blockchain assets.

Base gives Imperium access to a large DeFi ecosystem
Instead, BTCS actively allocates assets according to market conditions, potential profitability and risk across different decentralized finance protocols. However, decentralized finance strategies can expose participants to smart-contract, liquidity and digital-asset market risks. BTCS said its approach gives the company greater flexibility when choosing where to deploy its assets.
Meanwhile, Base gives Imperium access to another large ecosystem for decentralized financial activity. BTCS reported that Base currently holds more than USD$12 billion in assets recorded on the network. Chief technology officer Ben Hunter cited transaction volume and increasing demand as reasons for entering the network.
Additionally, BTCS expects Base to broaden the range of opportunities available to Imperium beyond Ethereum’s main network. The company believes operating across more networks can diversify its revenue-generating activities and allow capital to follow demand. Furthermore, management views the Base integration as one part of a wider expansion plan.
BTCS is evaluating additional strategies and networks that could further expand Imperium. The company has not identified which blockchain networks it may enter next.
