Talon Metals rallies 30% on best drill result to date in Minnesota

More than 27% nickel equivalent and 54.7% copper equivalent over 46.4 metres

Rich drill results from early-stage mining projects often send company shares higher as they point to strong future potential. Investors watch these numbers closely because they can signal large deposits of valuable metals and future shareholder returns.

Talon Metals Corp (TSE: TLO) (OTCMKTS: TLOFF) (FRA: TAO0) shares rose about 30 per cent on Thursday after the firm released its best drill result yet from the Tamarack project in Minnesota. This hole returned 46.43 metres grading 13.37 per cent nickel and 16.54 per cent copper (Cu) along with cobalt, platinum, palladium and 8.6 grams per tonne gold (27.39 per cent nickel equivalent and 54.78 per cent Cu equivalent). This stands as the longest such high-grade stretch found at the site thus far.

“It’s pretty cool to be seeing gold mineralisation in a nickel deposit,” noted exploration leader Brian Goldner.

The latest core sample was pulled 50 metres away from an earlier discovery hole in the Vault Zone, which the company first identified in 2025. The new results extend known mineralisation and support ongoing step-out drilling to map the area further. Tamarack is a nickel-copper-cobalt project being developed through a joint venture with Rio Tinto Group (ASX: RIO) (NYSE: RIO) subsidiary Kennecott Exploration, which holds a 49 per cent interest.

Investors and markets respond with intrigue

The single high-grade intercept and share price climb stood out to observers. Online discussion quickly highlighted the grades with some calling the project a potential next Voisey’s Bay, referring to a major past nickel discovery.

Voisey’s Bay itself remains an active operation in northern Labrador, Canada, where Vale SA (NYSE: VALE) (FRA: CVLB) subsidiary Vale Base Metals runs the mine and produces nickel, copper and cobalt. The site started as an open-pit operation and has since moved into underground mining. Its long track record of high-quality output and steady production helps explain why comparisons to it carry weight among investors looking for the next big find.

Financial firms responded positively too. National Bank boosted its target from C$8 to C$13. TD Securities also raised its share price target for Talon Metals to C$8.50 from C$7.50 while keeping a Buy rating. The combination of strong assay numbers and this kind of analyst support helped fuel the rally.

Path to production progresses

These assay results build on Talon’s shift to becoming a producer. In January, the company acquired the Eagle Mine and Humboldt Mill in Michigan from Lundin Mining Corp (TSE: LUN) (OTCMKTS: LUNMF) (FRA: GXD). It has now selected the Humboldt Mill as the processing site for material from Tamarack once development advances.

This decision uses existing infrastructure and skilled workers rather than building a new facility elsewhere. A study on the processing plan is due later this year.

Copper is currently trading near all-time highs, thereby providing incentive for those in the industry. Cobalt is sitting about 29 per cent higher than a year ago despite recent pullback and nickel is worth roughly 8 per cent more than it was last September.
