KGHM Polska Miedz SA (OTCMKTS: KGHPF) (FRA: KGHA) continues to set the bar for safety in Nevada’s mining landscape, where harsh conditions and complex operations test even the most experienced teams.
The Polish company’s Robinson Mine earned top honours as the safest large surface mine from the Nevada Mining Association (NVMA) for 2026 — its second year running in the lead spot. This recognition stems from strong performance data tracked by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Robinson stood out for low incident rates, minimal lost-time injuries and a commitment to daily safety practices. SSR Mining Inc‘s (NASDAQ: SSRM) Marigold operation and Nevada Gold Mines’ Twin Creeks followed closely behind KGHM.
At the same Nevada Mine Rescue Competition, Robinson teams collected multiple recognitions that highlighted their preparedness and teamwork. These included first place accolades for rope techniques and first aid competitions along with a sportsmanship award. One month earlier, a trio of KGHM officials picked up individual safety culture awards from the NVMA.
“Every operator and contractor recognized is committed to sending their crew home safely,” said NVMA President Amanda Hilton, “shift after shift.”
KGHM operates the Robinson open-pit mine in White Pine County, Nevada, roughly 2,130 metres above sea level near Ruth. The site produces copper as well as gold and molybdenum. KGHM ranks among the world’s major copper and silver producers, with integrated operations in Poland and international assets in Chile, the United States and Canada. Overseas sites, including Robinson, contributed about 48 per cent of the group’s core profit in 2025.
The mine sits in a region with active neighbours. NevGold Corp (CVE: NAU) (OTCMKTS: NAUFF) (FRA: 5E50) just produced an inaugural antimony-gold mineral resource estimate at White Pine County’s Limo Butte project. Gold major Kinross Gold Corp (TSE: K) (NYSE: KGC) (FRA: KIN2) also runs the Bald Mountain operation nearby. These operations share the high desert environment and workforce pool that defines mining life in eastern Nevada.

Awards build on major investment plan
These safety gains arrive as KGHM rolls out an ambitious growth strategy. Earlier this month the company unveiled its Strategy 2055+, which commits more than US$8.5 billion in investments through 2030.
Roughly 80 per cent of the funds target core Polish assets to secure long-term domestic production, while the rest supports international sites including those in the U.S., Chile and Canada. The plan targets average annual payable copper output above 730,000 tonnes and silver at 1,290 tonnes between 2026 and 2030, alongside an adjusted EBITDA around US$3.15 billion.
KGHM is also eyeing selective acquisitions in Morocco, Argentina, Canada and the U.S. to diversify into critical metals and reduce reliance on copper and silver price swings.
Poland’s State Treasury is the firm’s largest shareholder, holding a 31.79 per cent stake.
