Luxury five-star hotel COMO Metropolitan Singapore has equipped all 156 rooms and suites with “SleepHub” technology to help guests get improved rest. The large-scale install was revealed on Mar. 2 leading up to World Sleep Day on Mar. 13.
The hotel first tested SleepHub in a handful of rooms last year where it gained popularity for helping travellers unwind.
Developed by Britain’s Cambridge Sleep Sciences, the sleep tech functions by sending out low-frequency sounds that nudge the brain toward deeper rest. This company has drawn from brain research to build tools that guide users through sleep stages using tuned sounds like gentle waves or pulses mixed with relaxing noises.
Guests who have tried it report fewer wake-ups at night, fall asleep quicker and feel more alert in the morning, according to COMO. People who struggle with jet lag or busy schedules find it especially useful as it helps the body repair and clear out stress, the hotel says.
Unlike basic noise machines, this device is said to sync with the body’s natural patterns, letting users pick settings that suit them. The hotel offers it free to all visitors and pairs it with wellness options like massages and oxygen therapy in special packages.
This step at COMO Metropolitan fits into a growing wave of sleep aids in upscale hotels. Certain travellers now seek places that tackle poor sleep from travel or daily life, boosting a trend called sleep tourism.
COMO is not Singapore’s first luxury inn to install sleep technology in its suites. Last year, InterContinental Singapore rolled out NuCalm’s DeepSleep system, which uses app-guided sounds to calm the mind and promote deep recovery. Guests there plug in headphones for journeys that ease stress or recharge energy, all without the need for pills.
InterContinental and COMO are among the first in Asia to make sleep devices an integral part of their hotels.
Unfortunately though, the average person will not be able to experience this luxurious sleep technology experience at COMO without breaking the bank. Two-night packages start at 1,380 Singapore Dollars or about US$1,078.
