A celebrity-owned pot shop in West Hollywood was the latest target of cannabis bandits over the weekend.
Just after 4:20 am on Saturday, five thieves broke into “The Woods” dispensary complex owned by famous actor Woody Harrelson and talk show host Bill Maher.
They were able to make off with approximately US$2,500 worth of weed merchandise after smashing through the pot shop’s glass door. This is apparently the second time the location has been robbed within the past six months, but details about the previous November incident are scarce.
“While there was a lot of mess from the broken glass, nobody was hurt,” co-owner Michael Berman told ABC 7 LA. “They got merchandise, but they didn’t actually damage too much inside.”
Video surveillance captured the entire episode. The same group of robbers is suspected of targeting another California dispensary, ERBA Markets, the following night.
Those who have examined the surveillance footage think that one of the thieves may be a child, based on their size.

The Woods is not your average dispensary
In addition to its retail section, the complex features expansive cabana and ‘Ganja Garden’ lounge areas for patrons to enjoy their pre-rolls, dabs, blunts and so on.
The location is arguably the cornerstone of the Emerald Village cannabis tourism initiative launched in West Hollywood in late 2021. Its celebrity-owned luxurious nature has made it a key attraction for the village. The Artist Tree, Pleasure Med and CALMA are other popular participating stores.
Maher and Harrelson had been reform advocates for decades before California legalized recreational bud in 2016 and they got their store opened in the state six years later.
Harrelson is the dispensary’s unofficial mascot alongside a cockatoo bird named George and a couple parrots that hangout in the THC garden.
The famous duo opened the location three years ago in partnership with former tennis player John McEnroe.
