A remote community in the Northwest Territories will soon be home to a new marijuana warehouse.
The NWT Liquor and Cannabis Commission selected a contractor to build the C$300,000 dollar pot distribution shed last week. It will be situated in Hay River, a town about 240 kilometres southwest of the capital Yellowknife.
Once completed it will span about 1,800 square feet. It will serve as a staging area for the distribution of cannabis goods throughout the region. There are currently six designated retailers throughout the territory, two of which are liquor stores. Also, one online retailer: Releaf NT.
There is only one licensed cannabis producer in the NWT. That is, Boreal Cultivation. The company is comprised of small group of people who were born and raised in the territory. They own a C$2 million dollar cultivation facility in an undisclosed part of Yellowknife with about 500 plants.
Boreal’s flagship native cultivar has been named “Gas Banana.” It is available in British Columbia and Ontario too.

The unnamed individual will be appearing in court at a later date.
Adults are permitted to carry up to 30 grams of dried flower on them in the NWT.
For the fiscal year ended Mar. 31, the northern territory sold C$8.4 million dollars worth of pot.
