More people rely on cannabis to catch Z’s than sleep meds, new research finds

A study involving over 2,000 participants determined that 4% more adults rely on marijuana to get a good night’s sleep

A new study has found that cannabis is a more popular sleep aid for adults than prescription drugs. Ambien, Lunesta and other commonly prescribed medications just don’t compare to good ol Mary Jane.

The research was conducted by the Harris Poll on behalf the Green Thumb Industries Inc (CNSX: GTII) (OTCMKTS: GTBIF) brand “incredibles” — a cannabinoid-infused gummy and chocolate line created to put consumers to sleep.

Based on survey data from a cohort of 2,019 Americans, the investigation found that 4 per cent more participants preferred marijuana than prescription snooze drugs. Sixteen per cent said they used weed to help them get better shut-eye while only 12 per cent used pharmacy meds.

The research also indicated that more than half of adults who eat edibles do so to get into a dream state in a more timely fashion.

Young adults are not the only ones who turn to the plant for improved siesta capabilities. Another study completed last year with backing from the American Association of Retired Persons found that 68 per cent of people over 65 who use cannabis are consuming it for its sleep aid properties.

Cannabinoid sleep supplements gain popularity nationwide

Green Thumb’s “Snoozzzeberry” gummies and chocolate bars aren’t the only cannabinoid products with a sleepy theme to line the shelves of U.S. dispensaries and e-commerce platforms.

Other American cannabis operators like Trulieve Cannabis Corp (OTCMKTS: TCNNF) and Ayr Wellness Inc (OTCMKTS: AYRWF) have formulated edibles for those in need of augmented sleep too.

Trulieve is stocked up on its CBN Sleep Gummies at various locations throughout the nation while Ayr Wellness sells “CBN Night Caps” (cannabinol) throughout multiple states.

Many less prominent private companies have cooked up their own batches of infused-goods intended for sleep too. Some, like MCRO, have even combined cannabinoids with melatonin and functional mushrooms.

Awareness about the plant’s sleep aid potential has increased as it has become more widely accepted in the United States.
