Compass Pathways reports US$444M cash and runway into 2028
The psilocybin developer expects its final application submission within two weeks, with a launch targeted for the first half of 2027.

Cash is expected to fund operations into 2028 as Compass Pathways plc NASDAQCMPS reported US$444 million at Sept. 30 in its Tuesday results. The developer expects to complete its COMP360 psilocybin application within two weeks and targets a first-half 2027 launch, subject to FDA approval.
The Nov. 3 release says a rolling new drug application submission and review are underway. Completion of that submission is a regulatory milestone, while the commercial launch remains conditional on an approval decision.
Compass is a small-cap biotechnology developer based in London and New Jersey, focused on new treatments for mental-health conditions.
Compass shares NASDAQCMPS closed at US$8.41 on Nasdaq on Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. EST, before the results. The company's cash forecast covers operating expenses and capital expenditure requirements into 2028.
Launch Preparation Lifts Spending
For the September quarter, selling, general and administrative expenses rose to US$33 million from US$13.2 million in the comparable 2025 period. Compass attributed the increase to commercial infrastructure, market access, reimbursement capabilities and supply-chain preparations ahead of a potential launch.
In the third quarter of 2026, research and development expenses fell to US$23.5 million from US$27.3 million for the same quarter. Lower clinical-trial costs after completion of the depression Phase 3 program and reduced discovery-program expenses contributed to the decline.
Third-quarter net loss narrowed to US$9.8 million from US$137.7 million in 2025. A US$40.8 million non-cash warrant gain replaced a US$101.3 million loss in the comparable period, driving most of the improvement.
Debt stood at US$51 million on Sept. 30, compared with US$31.6 million at the end of 2025.
"With the imminent completion of our NDA submission and the potential for a quick approval, we are executing with urgency and discipline to launch this much needed treatment in the first half of 2027," Compass chief executive Kabir Nath said in the release.
The company says it is selecting its sales team and advancing provider training, patient access and reimbursement preparations. Its discussion of potentially accelerated review does not supply an FDA approval date.

Beyond the proposed depression launch, Compass says a late-stage post-traumatic stress disorder trial is underway. It is also working with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on a randomized trial in veterans with treatment-resistant depression, including those with concurrent PTSD.
Definium Is Advancing A Different Depression Program
Another listed late-stage developer is Definium Therapeutics, Inc. NASDAQDFTX. Its June 22 release describes DT120 as a lysergide orally disintegrating tablet studied in the Phase 3 Emerge trial in major depressive disorder.
That population differs from Compass's treatment-resistant depression program. The separate studies do not provide a direct comparison between the treatments.

The Nov. 3 release defines treatment-resistant depression as an inadequate response to at least two antidepressant courses of adequate dose and duration. Compass estimates that about 4 million people in the United States live with the condition.
Compass's Sept. 9 follow-up came from an open-label extension of COMP005, in which eligible participants from both original treatment arms could receive COMP360. Without a continuing placebo comparison, that extension cannot establish the additional dose's benefit against control. The company reported no new safety findings in that extension.
For broader sector context, the iShares Biotechnology ETF NASDAQIBB closed at US$213.79 on Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. EST.
The next milestone is the final submission, expected within two weeks of Nov. 3, which will put the complete application before the FDA for its approval decision.
