Highly unlikely that you’ve ever heard of a person doing something worse under the influence

A 31-year-old man in Western Australia has been sentenced for stabbing his mother to death under the influence of ayahuasca and prescription drugs. Callum Cameron had a very troubled history leading up to the 2020 occurrence.

He will be spending at least 20 years behind bars.

After his mother Carol called paramedics four years ago, worried that her only son was overdosing on the DMT-infused tea and a mix of other things, he had a psychotic episode and stabbed her over 60 times. Ayahuasca and prescription medications are known to be a very dangerous combination.

Moreover, Callum had a history of narcotics abuse and had been known to use methamphetamine and heroin. He is also said to have improperly treated schizophrenia.

He pleaded not guilty and thought that he should be convicted of manslaughter due to his mental state at the time, but the judge had no sympathy for him.

“Your attack was extremely violent,” Justice Joseph McGrath said. “When your own mother attempted to retreat, you pursued her and continued your ferocious attack on her.”

Police now have the murderer in protective custody after he received death threats from prison inmates.

Not the only psychedelic-induced murder

Last year, a United States Army Ranger opened fire at attendees of a Washington electronic musical festival while under the influence of psilocybin mushrooms.

Two women were left dead and three other people were injured.

Little was made known about the attacker’s mental health history after the event, but it is safe to say that it was not a pretty picture either. He apparently told his girlfriend “this is the end” before grabbing the gun out of his truck and going nuts.

The families of the women sued the event organizers and those responsible for managing security at Beyond Wonderland 2023 a few months ago.

Occurrences like these are extremely rare.
