A key figure at ATHA Energy Corp. (TSX-V: SASK) (OTCQB: SASKF) (FRA: X5U) was just recognized for developing an efficient means of identifying mineral deposits by utilizing AI. He and his team won the top prize at the recent Future Explorer’s competition organized by Humyn AI and funded by Dundee Precious Metals (TSX: DPM).
This contest, which started last fall, had over 200 participants representing 37 nations. The Digital Discovery Team, led by ATHA’s geodata director Drew Heasman, won the “Best Overall Award” for their work identifying highly prospective gold and copper targets at Dundee’s Chelopech mine in Bulgaria. They were awarded US$75,000 for outshining the other competitors.
“Working on the Chelopech data has been rewarding,” Heasman said, “and has pushed the boundaries of our workflows using data science, machine learning, AI and geomechanical modeling to generate innovative mineral exploration targets.”
He and the team have been using the same method to identify uranium and copper targets at ATHA’s Gemini project in Saskatchewan and Central Mineral Belt (CMB) operation in Labrador. ATHA is currently using AI to create a 3D geological model of Gemini’s deposit and its respective high-priority zones.
“The machine learning process that Drew has developed is particularly relevant for ATHA as we are exploring at scale,” the uranium explorer’s CEO Troy Boisjoli said. “The process allows us to efficiently, and with the highest probability, derisk and identify top-tier targets.”

The province’s Department of Industry, Energy and Technology just gave ATHA C$225,000 to cover expenses associated with recent surveys at the CMB property. This was made possible through the department’s Mineral Incentive Program for Labrador-based grassroots exploration.
ATHA also just announced that it has employed Tennessee’s Creative Direct Marketing Group to help promote its uranium mining business on multiple platforms.
The prospector’s exploration program this year is the most robust to date. In addition to Saskatchewan and Labrador, significant exploration and drilling work is currently under way at the recently obtained Angilak project in Nunavut.
