AmpliTech Group reports record US$21.7M purchase order for 5G radios

The Asian program has approximately US$34 million in purchase orders; the Oct. 20 release gives no delivery or revenue timetable for the new order.

A single 5G radio order is worth more than an equipment supplier's entire first-half sales. AmpliTech Group, Inc. NASDAQAMPG NASDAQAMPGZ, a New York manufacturer of radio-frequency components and wireless systems, reported a US$21.7 million follow-on purchase order on Tuesday.

That exceeds US$13.42 million in first-half revenue, calculated from the quarterly figures reported on Aug. 13. Tuesday's order lifts company backlog above US$51 million, but the announcement gives no shipment schedule or timetable for recognizing the new order as revenue.

AmpliTech shares were unchanged at US$2.36 at Monday's 4:00 p.m. EDT Nasdaq close, according to NASDAQAMPG, before Tuesday's announcement.

The order supports an unnamed Asian mobile network operator's deployment under an existing US$78 million letter of intent. At Oct. 20, purchase orders under that program totalled approximately US$34 million, leaving about US$44 million of the stated opportunity without announced orders.

Orders Cover Nearly Half The Asian Program

AmpliTech describes Tuesday's purchase order as its largest ever. Cumulative orders now cover nearly 44 per cent of the Asian letter of intent's value, according to the announcement, while additional purchases remain subject to definitive orders and customer deployment schedules.

"From the outset we have communicated that large-scale telecommunications deployments progress through multiple stages, from initial agreements and customer evaluations to purchase orders and commercial deployment," AmpliTech founder and chief executive Fawad Maqbool said in Tuesday's release.

The new announcement follows an Oct. 14 update reporting more than US$17 million in third-quarter purchase orders. That total included previously announced follow-on orders for both Asian and North American mobile network operators, so it cannot be treated as entirely new business on top of those earlier announcements.

The Oct. 14 release also said more than 3,000 radios had been deployed under the North American program. That installed base gives a measure of commercial deployment in a separate customer program; Tuesday's release did not provide an equivalent installed-unit count for the Asian order.

The Order Exceeds First-Half Revenue

The new order equals about 1.6 times first-half sales, using the August results. It is also about 2.7 times the revenue generated in the quarter ended June 30, although the announcement does not assign the order to a single reporting period.

AmpliTech's Aug. 13 earnings presentation puts June-quarter revenue at US$8.07 million, below US$11.03 million a year earlier. The company attributed the prior year's sales mix partly to lower-margin acquired 5G products associated with an asset acquisition.

Gross margin reached 27.9 per cent in the June quarter, compared with 7.8 per cent a year earlier, according to the August results. The June-quarter net loss widened to US$3.09 million from US$1.77 million as research, development and administrative expenses increased.

Research and development expense was US$1.37 million in the June quarter, compared with US$0.66 million a year earlier, the August results showed. The company said the spending included 5G product development, prototype and testing work, consulting support and semiconductor design.

The August results reported US$12.95 million in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities at June 30. They separately disclosed approximately US$20.12 million in net proceeds from the July rights exercise process, providing a later financing figure rather than a current cash balance.

Delivery And Revenue Dates Remain Unspecified

Tuesday's release does not identify the Asian operator, the number of radios ordered or the payment milestones. It also gives no customer acceptance requirements or delivery dates, leaving the backlog figure without a schedule showing when those commitments should become sales.

AmpliTech's August presentation said production readiness, supply-chain capability and customer-specific requirements were incurring costs ahead of the full revenue contribution from customer programs. It also said individual programs and product mix could significantly affect quarterly margins at the company's existing scale.

The distinction between commitments and revenue also runs through Mugglehead's coverage of data centre delivery and billing. Core Scientific, Inc. NASDAQCORZ, a U.S. operator of data centres for AI workloads, reported 395 MW billing at June 30, alongside approximately 1.1 GW of total leased customer capacity.

AmpliTech's next financial checkpoint is its report for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026. Its investor-relations page, reviewed Oct. 20, lists no reporting date; Tuesday's announcement leaves the delivery and revenue timetable for the new order unspecified.
