AEye Inc (NASDAQ: LIDR) (NASDAQ: LIDRW) shares and warrants flew on the Nasdaq Exchange Thursday after the sensor creator revealed a new partnership with tech giant NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ: NVDA) (ETR: NVD). Common stock was up by over 158 per cent at the end of the trading session after considerable gains during pre-market hours.
NVIDIA is now integrating AEye’s Apollo lidar system into its DRIVE AGX autonomous vehicle platform. Apollo sensors are capable of detecting objects over 1 kilometre away in every direction, according to AEye. It generates a 3-dimensional model of an automobile’s environment.
AEye boasted that it will now have direct access to an international network of the world’s top automotive companies that are working with NVIDIA as a result of the new deal. NVIDIA is one of the world’s leading developers of artificial intelligence computing systems, graphics processing units and autonomous transportation.
“Now that Apollo is a part of the NVIDIA DRIVE ecosystem, we have a powerful channel to scale commercially across the automotive industry,” said chief executive Matt Fisch.
Integral to Apollo is the 4Sight lidar tech system. AEye says it is capable of targeting objects 10 to 20 times more precisely than systems that only have cameras and that it will detect pedestrians over 300 metres away.
“4Sight lidar for smart infrastructure delivers highly accurate detection, perception and classification of both long and short-range objects,” AEye highlighted on its website.
Fisch explained that the lidar sensor system is software defined and driven, meaning that it can be updated and fine-tuned without needing to replace the hardware. Fish also added that he would update shareholders on the matter in an earnings call on Jul. 31 and discuss the newest AEye software program named “OPTIS.”
Little details about OPTIS were revealed. It was simply described as a “complete physical AI solution designed to address the future of smart transportation, safety, and security beyond automotive” in the announcement.

AEye visits Toronto, South Korea & Michigan
Company leader Fisch was recently at the University of Toronto’s robotics conference to educate scholars about Apollo’s technology. He gave a talk titled Lidar at Speed – Improving Safety and Autonomy In the Midst of the Rapid Learning Cycles of AI and Perception.
AEye was one of the conference’s key sponsors.
“It’s a great event that showcases the latest AI-robotics research in mobility and manipulation,” the lidar specialist stated.
Prior to that, the sensor technology developer was in South Korea and Michigan to meet with partners and customers.
