Innovations in robotics are promising to reshape theme parks. Costumed performers who once sweated inside oversized goofy suits may soon find themselves replaced by machines.
Dynamic Creatures officially launched this week as a specialist in mobile, interactive character robots. Co-founded by Marc Theermann, former chief strategy officer at renowned U.S. robotics firm Boston Dynamics and a senior Google veteran; and Farbod Farshidian, a past research leader at the Robotics and AI Institute, the American startup is becoming Boston’s official entertainment and hospitality partner. The firm says it is already collaborating with an unspecified major theme park and large retailer.
The company positions its creations between traditional fixed animatronics and standard service robots. Dynamic has explained that characters built on Boston’s platforms and custom designs will be able to move naturally through crowded spaces, sense the context of each encounter and respond in real time. These creations will be supported by the startup’s behavioural software platform SnowJay.
“We believe these types of robots will provide entertainment in theme parks and red-carpet events,” said Theermann, “while also engaging in customer service interactions in hotels, casinos, and retail environments.”
Backed by venture capital firms such as Eniac Ventures and Sunshine Lake along with individual investors including Boston Dynamics founder Marc Raibert, the firm has declined to disclose the size of its seed funding. Current plans include managed pilot deployments in early 2027, leasing models for operators and longer-term ambitions to develop its own custom hardware + software.
The founders bring notable industry experience. Theermann helped commercialise advanced systems at scale during nearly six years at MIT spin-off Boston Dynamics. Chief Technology Officer Farshidian advanced learning-based control that improved humanoid Atlas’s agility and transferred skills from simulation to real machines. Their combined backgrounds give this new venture reasonably high credibility.
Despite the claim that Dynamic Creatures has only just emerged from stealth, Theermann was introduced as CEO of Dynamic Creatures during an interview at the Machina Summit in France two months ago.
