Man who robbed Kim Kardashian in Paris dies of lung cancer after conviction

The billionaire influencer described the 2016 incident as the most terrifying experience of her life

A 69-year-old French male found to be responsible for a gun point robbery in Kim Kardashian’s Paris hotel room nine years ago lost his life to lung cancer on Jun 26 after undergoing unsuccessful chemotherapy.

Didier Dubreucq was convicted alongside seven others involved in the incident last month. They, deemed the “grandpa robbers” due to their old age, barged into Kardashian’s temporary residence in the middle of the night demanding cash and ended up deciding to steal as much jewellery as they could when it turned out that there wasn’t any.

The group of old men made off with millions worth of valuables, including a large US$4-million-dollar diamond engagement ring originating from her controversial ex-husband “Ye.” Kim was in the city for Paris Fashion Week at the time.

In a statement provided to TMZ this week, the reality television star and entrepreneur described the occurrence as the “most terrifying experience of her life” and said it had a lasting impact on her family. Last month, she told judges in the courtroom that she thought she was going to die or become a rape victim. The social media influencer was tied up with a gun to her head at one point as the episode unfolded.

Dubreucq denied his involvement prior to his passing. “It’s a mistaken identity case,” he claimed in April. “I had nothing to do with this.”

However, the believability of his innocent claim is highly questionable due to the fact that the man had previous robbery convictions on his record.

The group of senior men will not be serving any prison time following the trial due to their age and years already spent incarcerated leading up to the court hearing.

The French jewellery business is estimated to be worth over US$3.1 billion. LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE (EPA: MC), Kering SA (OTCMKTS: PPRUF) and Compagnie Financiere Richemont SA (OTCMKTS: CFRHF) (FRA: RITN) are key players supplying fancy necklaces, rings, gemstones and other wearable items in the nation’s luxury goods sector.

With regard to lung cancer, about 33,000 people succumb to the disease in France every year. The European country will be starting its first-ever nationwide lung cancer screening initiative by the end of 2025. It has historically been lacking in this area.
