You may have thought that Arby’s couldn’t possibly get any worse, but what if it was garnished with pepper spray? An unfortunate couple in Indiana had this variety of horrible dining experience earlier this month.
When Mark Cardin’s wife Mandy sat down to eat her sandwich after midnight on Dec. 7 she was struck with an extremely unpleasant surprise. Mandy began to cough, choke and gasp uncontrollably before ultimately vomiting. Her disappointing late night bite was dripping with a liquid used to deter criminals in ugly situations.
Courtney Stevenson, a woman working for delivery service company DoorDash Inc (NASDAQ: DASH) (FRA: DD2), decided to douse an order from the sandwich restaurant chain with mace after dropping it on their porch. The door camera taped the entire occurrence.
Tampering with food in Indiana is a considerable crime to commit. According to local Sheriff Noah Robinson, it is possible that she will end up in prison because of the stunt. She is now potentially facing felony charges over her bizarre decision.
In her defence, Stevenson made the ridiculous claim that she was attempting to spray a spider.
“The overnight low was 35°F,” said the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office in a news release on Dec. 12. “At that temperature, outdoor spiders in Indiana are not active and would not be capable of crawling on exposed surfaces.”
When Mark attempted to contact her after the unfortunate incident he discovered that the delivery driver had blocked him. He also felt the nasty effects after examining the bag Stevenson had spritzed with the aerosol can.
“It’s horrific,” Cardin said. “We assume it’s pepper spray, that’s more than likely what it is, but now in this day and age it could’ve been anything. It could’ve been rat poison, it could’ve been fentanyl. I mean, my wife could’ve been dead.”
DoorDash has permanently banned Stevenson from using its app. She will no longer be a danger to those seeking to have sandwiches delivered to their door. The charges she is potentially facing could be worse if she had caused more serious harm to the married couple.
“We have zero tolerance for this type of appalling behaviour,” said a representative from the delivery provider.
