Our planet is set to receive its first artificial intelligence-generated art museum in California by the end of 2025. It will situated in the downtown Los Angeles arts district.
Dataland is the creation of Refik Anadol, a seasoned media arts teacher at UCLA; and his wife Efsun Erkılıç, another Turkish artist who co-founded the Refik Anadol Studio with him in 2014. The vision behind this pioneering project was born from this artistic studio.
“Dataland will unite pioneers in diverse fields including the arts, science, AI research, and cutting-edge technology,” the creators announced on the future gallery’s website last fall.
Dataland is being set up in collaboration with San Francisco’s architecture firm Gensler.
Anadol picked LA to establish the museum because of his long fascination with the city since childhood.
“Over the past decade, my journey with AI has been a relentless pursuit of collaboration between humans and machines, between memory and imagination, between technology and nature,” Anadol said at the AI Impact Awards in Dubai last month. He was recognized as a global leader in the field at the event.
Few details are currently available about this expansive project. But, In December, Anadol launched one of the museum’s key nature-themed features as an online platform accessible by the public.

Dataland’s ‘Living Encyclopedia’ makes its debut
Anadol and his partner released this “Large Nature Model (LNM)” online at the end of 2024. The Living Encyclopedia will be a staple in the digital art gallery once it opens its doors.
“LNM is reimagining the traditional concept of an encyclopedia by transforming static knowledge into an evolving, multi-sensory experience powered by AI,” Anadol’s studio has explained, “where nature’s beauty and complexity are brought to life through dynamic visuals, sound and interaction.”
The artificial intelligence model has an archive containing over 180 million images from natural settings. It relies on multiple vast datasets taken solely from nature.
“The model transforms your prompts into detailed, scientifically accurate images of flora, fauna and fungi,” the studio says, “giving shape to your imagination while honouring the integrity of the natural world.”
People can apply for beta access to the LNM by signing up here. This is only the beginning of the story, Anadol has emphasized.
