Westinghouse, Eclipse join forces on next generation nuclear projects

The companies plan to combine their expertise to meet the demand for updated infrastructure

Westinghouse and Accenture’s automation arm, Eclipse Automation, have signed a memorandum of understanding in support of new nuclear projects in Canada and beyond.

Eclipse Automation announced Thursday that it may supply automation solutions for key AP1000 and AP300 projects. The company signed an agreement to support these advanced reactor technologies. Under the deal, Eclipse and its partner will also develop specialized tooling. This equipment will help refurbish existing nuclear power plants.

Additionally, the collaboration supports long-term plant operations and modernization. Eclipse aims to strengthen its role in nuclear innovation through this partnership. As a result, both companies expect to streamline project timelines and boost efficiency.

Besides new builds, the agreement highlights the need to upgrade aging infrastructure. The companies plan to combine their expertise to meet this growing demand.

“This milestone marks another step toward a future powered by clean and reliable energy, as nuclear innovation continues to develop a number of safe and sustainable energy solutions,” said Steve Mai, CEO, Eclipse Automation, Managing Director, Accenture Industry X.

Mai said the growing investment in nuclear energy creates meaningful, long-term career opportunities for skilled professionals. At Eclipse Automation, the team takes pride in its strong track record across the nuclear sector. This also includes work on some of the industry’s most advanced and well-known projects.

Westinghouse, now owned by Canada’s Brookfield Renewable Partners LP (NYSE: BEP) (TSE: BEP-C) and Cameco Corporation (TSE: CCO) (NYSE: CCJ), highlighted its new agreement with Eclipse Automation. The company said this deal is the latest in a series of partnerships with Canadian firms. These collaborations aim to support Westinghouse’s AP1000 and AP300 projects around the world.

Westinghouse has been busy making partnerships

Westinghouse continues to expand its global supply chain by working with Canadian partners. This strategy helps ensure reliable support for both current and future nuclear deployments.

“As Westinghouse works to deliver AP1000 and AP300 projects around the world, the advanced automation solutions provided by Eclipse Automation can help us streamline manufacturing and make operations more efficient and safer,” said John Gorman, president and Westinghouse Canada.

“In addition to delivering clean energy, these projects will also benefit the Canadian economy by providing local jobs and boosting economic growth.”

In December, Westinghouse and Canadian construction firm Aecon signed two agreements to support advanced nuclear new-build projects. These agreements created a collaborative framework for deployment in Canada and globally. That same month, Westinghouse also signed a memorandum of understanding with BWXT Canada.

Under the MoU, BWXT may manufacture critical components for AP1000 and AP300 reactors. These include steam generators, reactor vessels, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers.

Earlier, in October, Westinghouse partnered with Vancouver-based shipbuilder Seaspan ULC. The companies signed an MoU to support nuclear new-build projects in Canada and worldwide.

Under that agreement, Seaspan could manufacture AP1000 and AP300 reactor parts, such as pipe spools and steel structures. As a result, Westinghouse continues to strengthen its Canadian supply chain for global nuclear growth.
