Spiritual sleep tech: luxury UK hotel starts using amethyst-infused pillows

The Mandrake Hotel blends extravagant accommodations with spiritual wellness offerings

The Mandrake, a fancy British hotel with a spiritual well-being program and other luxurious amenities, is now providing guests with amethyst-infused pillows.

B Sleepy, the UK company that creates them, announced their new wellness partnership on Oct. 2. The new age sleep tech creator has been developing the pillows since 2024 and currently sells them online for about US$80.25 apiece.

“The collaboration positions both brands at the forefront of the growing wellness hospitality movement,” B Sleepy likes to believe, “offering guests access to sleep technology that extends far beyond traditional comfort.”

Each hand made pillow has 50 grams of Brazilian amethyst crystals. B Sleepy also sells amethyst-infused mattress toppers.

According to alternative medicine practitioners, the gemstone can relieve stress, enhance intuition and improve sleep. You can find it in new agey coffee shops and stores that carry tarot cards, Himalayan salt lamps, sage bundles and organic fair-trade this and that. Tate McRae likes to meditate next to amethyst in between shows, apparently.

“Our crystal-infused sleep products offer a unique blend of memory foam comfort and metaphysical benefits, creating a sleep experience like no other,” B Sleepy claims on its website.

B Sleepy’s Managing Director and founder, Charlie O’Neill, shared his inspiration for creating the company on social media few months ago.

“When my partner was diagnosed with a tumour, our world changed overnight,” he said. “In that moment, sleep became more than just rest – it became healing.”

The Mandrake Hotel is a 5-star lodge situated in the Fitzrovia district of central London that charges approximately US$670 per night. It features an extravagant South American restaurant, a private dining room, a mud cave spa and several other features.

It also hosts concerts from time to time and private ticketed spiritual events of various sorts.

“Immerse yourself in a variety of transformative wellness activities, including intimate sound bath and reiki healing sessions, bespoke shamanic ceremonies, energy cleansing work and breathwork,” the hotel specified online, “each designed to nurture your mind, body and soul.”

The proven impact of amethyst crystals

There is no robust scientific evidence to prove that amethyst crystals offer any tangible health benefits.

Claims that they heal the body, reduce stress, provide the holder with an energy boost, ward off bad vibes and so on stem from pseudoscientific alternative medicine and spiritual speculation.

There are no peer-reviewed studies proving that they have cognitive, physical or medicinal value.
