Soundcore’s new sleep buds block out ugly spouse snoring noises

Good Housekeeping rated them 84/100

Nifty new ear buds that block out snoring noise, track sleep data and emit soothing sounds are the talk of the sleep tech space at the moment.

The Soundcore Sleep A30 Earbuds have been making a splash since their official release in mid-June. They are Soundcore’s third generation of wearable ear canal tech.

The headphones feature an adaptive snore masking technology that effectively blocks out unpleasant respiratory noises made by one’s spouse while still enabling the user to hear other sounds.

“With an ultra comfortable ergonomic design and smart active noise cancellation [ANC], the Sleep A30 offers users all night peace and quiet from noisy environments,” Soundcore explained on Jun 16, “including a snoring partner, the garbage truck at 3 am and other common sounds heard at night that disturb a user’s sleep.”

The A30 buds are 7 per cent slimmer than the A20 and A10 models, a change the company says is beneficial for side sleepers. Soundcore also claims that they offer superior AI brainwave audio, including binaural beat soundscapes, that provide the wearer with improved sleep.

Good Housekeeping gave the sleep technology a solid review this month. A group of test subjects from the popular publication tried them out for a few weeks and gave them an 84/100 rating. They said the buds were very effective for masking snoring noises as advertised.

“The snore masking was really effective, the buds have 100 per cent helped me sleep better,” said a Good Housekeeping test subject who sleeps in the same bed as a heavy snorer.

The reviewers also stated that they were very comfortable and had an impressive range of soundscapes to choose from. Their only significant complaint was that they are expensive, costing about US$230.

A Forbes contributor just tried them out too and also had a generally positive take on the pair of sound gadgets.

“Soundcore is really starting to build up expertise in this area,” commented Benny Har-Even.

The Chinese sleep tech company is currently competing with Bose and Ozlo for sleep bud supremacy. Bose and Ozlo’s ear devices lack the ANC and snore-masking specific tech that Soundcore has. They are also more expensive.

Nonetheless, some users have complained that the A30 plugs don’t have wireless charging, have insufficient battery life and are still a costly investment despite the lower price point in comparison to others.
