Revolute Robotics has raised US$1.9 million to help propel deployment of its unique spherical robots, according to an article from The Robot Report on Oct. 10. Venture capital firms ANIMO Ventures and Ascend led the funding round.
The popular robotics publication spoke with Arizona-based Revolute’s co-founder and CEO, Collin Taylor. He explained that the company plans to launch it more broadly next year, partly thanks to the new cash in hand. Revolute is currently providing its robotic creation to select customers that are assisting with pilot studies, Taylor says.
Revolute’s robot is essentially a drone within a sphere that is capable of rolling over rough terrain and flying when necessary. It is designed for surveillance in hard-to-reach areas, automated security purposes, military reconnaissance and mine mapping.
This ‘Hybrid Mobility Robot’ is equipped with LiDAR sensors, thermal imaging tech, gas and radiation detection technology, and ultrasonic systems use to collect data.
In the mining industry, it is capable of determining if mine shafts and excavation sites are safe enough for workers to enter, according to Revolute.
“Our hybrid aerial-terrestrial capability allows for a single solution to cover multiple uses,” said Taylor, “like the Swiss Army Knife of robotic inspections.”
This year, Revolute was selected for the MassRobotics Accelerator program where it received a US$100,000-dollar grant and mentorship.
In 2024, Revolute showcased its robotics tech at an invitational event held by Jeff Bezos. The annual MARS Conference is a prestigious educational party centred around innovations in machine learning, automation, robotics and space.
Last January, the robotics innovator received a US$50,000-dollar grant from the Boston VC firm MassChallenge.
“We believe Collin and his team [have] created a system that will become the go-to tool for inspecting the world’s most critical and least accessible assets,” stated ANIMO partner Antonio Osio.

Revolute Robotics created a machine called the Hybrid Mobility Robot. I had a chance to meet their team in Boston earlier this year.
