OrganiGram Holdings Inc (TSE: OGI) (NASDAQ: OGI), now known as Organigram Global, has secured a foothold in the United States market by acquiring an established cannabis-infused and hemp-derived THC beverage producer.
For C$6.2 million, the cannabis producer has taken over The Collective Project — an artistic cannabinoid drink specialist based in Hamilton, Ontario.
This company currently distributes its products in 37 states and five Canadian provinces. THC-infused beverages are made available in states with adult-use markets while hemp-derived cannabinoid drinks are distributed in those that do not in adherence to the Farm Bill.
“Not only does this acquisition represent our first commercial entry into the fast-growing hemp-derived THC beverage market in the U.S.,” chief executive Beena Goldenberg said, “it also fast tracks our entry into the cannabis beverage category in Canada, a category that we believe is on the cusp of growth.”
The multi-brand cannabis producer is optimistic that beverages are set to become the next on-premise consumable in public adult spaces in Canada. This could potentially boost revenue generation immensely down the road.
This isn’t the New Brunswick-based company’s only recent acquisition in Ontario. In December, Organigram spent C$90 million to obtain the extract expert Motif Labs. Motif’s “Boxhot” vapes were the number one seller in Canada last year in their category.
On the investment funding front, Organigram also received the final chunk of a C$124.5-million-dollar investment from British American Tobacco PLC (NYSE: BTI) (ETR: BMT) last month.
Yes, Canadian companies with Big Tobacco (BAT) $$ backing are in fact cashing in on American cannabis via the THC hemp channel.

Organigram celebrates rebranding and international expansion
The recent name change to Organigram Global and moving product into global markets like United States and Germany deserved a celebration, the cultivator decided.
Organigram hosted a hotel party late last month to mark the shift from a mere Canadian grower to a global influence in marijuana and hemp products.
“As Organigram has grown from its roots in Atlantic Canada to become a global player, our identity needed to evolve alongside our business,” Goldenberg said in a press release on Mar. 26.
EU-GMP certification is expected to be obtained in the coming months for continued European expansion outside of the German market.
“From their roots in Moncton to becoming Canada’s leading cannabis producer, Organigram Global has risen to the top through bold vision, relentless innovation, and a commitment to excellence in everything they do,” said
“So glad you could make it Colleen – thanks for your continued partnership,” Organigram’s Chief People Officer, Katrina McFadden, commented.
