An Oct. 29 contract covers first-article fabrication for a 77-megawatt reactor design, NuScale Power Corporation NYSESMR said on Thursday. The company disclosed no price or payment schedule in its Oct. 29 announcement.
NuScale named Doosan Enerbility Co., Ltd. KRX034020 as the manufacturer, with work at its Changwon facility in South Korea. The Oct. 29 announcement gives no contract duration or equipment delivery deadline.
NuScale shares closed lower at US$5.67 on the NYSE on Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. EDT NYSESMR. That close preceded Thursday's announcement.
The contract covers the first article for the upper reactor coolant system, rather than a complete reactor module. NuScale's release does not identify a receiving power plant, a customer delivery date or a first-power milestone tied to this order.
"This agreement is a meaningful step in converting our approved design into deliverable modules," NuScale president and chief executive John Hopkins said in the release.
NuScale supplies small modular reactor technology based on a pressurized water reactor design. The company said the collaboration has refined the design to improve manufacturability while preserving the performance and safety characteristics behind its regulatory approval.
NuScale's Oct. 29 technology description advertises configurations of up to 12 modules. It puts their combined electrical output at up to 924 megawatts, but does not attach that capacity to this manufacturing order.
Manufacturing Preparation Began In 2019
Doosan's own July 24, 2019 account of the partnership said its role included reviewing NuScale's module design for manufacturability. Thursday's contract follows years of work on manufacturing processes, supply chains and production infrastructure, according to NuScale.
This is also not the companies' first production announcement. In an April 25, 2022 release, they announced an agreement to begin producing forging materials and forging dies for the upper reactor pressure vessel.
That release anticipated full-scale equipment manufacturing in the latter half of 2023. The Oct. 29 announcement identifies the first-article scope but does not explain progress against that earlier manufacturing timetable.
The regulatory approval applies to the design. In its May 29, 2025 notice, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved NuScale's US460 standard design, with each module rated at 77 megawatts.
The NRC's May 2025 notice describes a six-module plant producing approximately 460 megawatts. Its modules are partially immersed in a safety-related pool built below ground level.
The NRC said standard design approval establishes that a proposed design meets applicable agency safety requirements. Companies seeking to use it still have to file applications for permission to build and operate a reactor.
NuScale's Oct. 29 risk disclosures separately identify its ability to enter binding module-delivery contracts and customers' ability to secure financing as uncertainties. They also flag potential manufacturing delays and constraints in the supply base.

No manufacturing completion date was supplied on Thursday. NuScale's next scheduled investor update is its third-quarter results conference call on Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. EST.
