Circle CEO says AI agents will transform work as company posts mixed quarter

Circle has already begun integrating AI agents into its own operations

Circle Internet Group Inc. (NYSE: CRCL) said artificial intelligence agents will play a central role in the future workforce as the stablecoin issuer expands its business following a mixed second-quarter financial report that showed stronger profitability despite slower-than-expected growth in key operating metrics.

Chief executive officer and co-founder Jeremy Allaire said on Wednesday that AI agents will eventually become a routine part of business operations. He expects companies to use billions of digital agents to perform work, coordinate tasks and help organizations grow more quickly.

Additionally, Allaire said entrepreneurs and startups will gain access to vast networks of AI-powered labour. He believes those systems will allow businesses to complete projects faster while expanding their capabilities without relying solely on human workers.

Circle has already begun integrating AI agents into its own operations. Employees use the technology alongside traditional workplace tools, including Slack, to collaborate with both people and software systems.

Furthermore, Allaire said the company wants every employee to help develop those AI workflows. He described the approach as giving workers access to fleets of digital assistants that can strengthen individual productivity rather than replace employees.

The comments came as investors weighed Circle’s latest quarterly earnings. The company’s shares slipped about 2 per cent in Wednesday trading after results exceeded profit expectations but fell short on several important growth measures.

Revenue and reserve income reached USD$701.3 million during the quarter. That marked a 6.6 per cent increase from a year earlier but missed analysts’ consensus estimate of USD$712.3 million.

However, Circle minted USD$83 billion worth of USD Coin during the quarter.

Analysts had expected about USD$88.82 billion. Meanwhile, the average USD Coin in circulation reached USD$76.5 billion compared with expectations of roughly USD$77.48 billion.

Those figures suggested the stablecoin business continued expanding, although growth arrived at a slower pace than many investors anticipated.

Meanwhile, profitability exceeded expectations. Adjusted EBITDA reached USD$143 million, topping the consensus estimate of USD$139.6 million.

Net income also improved sharply. Circle earned USD$48 million after reporting a USD$482.1 million loss during the same quarter last year.

Additionally, the reserve return rate reached 3.5 per cent, matching analyst expectations almost exactly and supporting the company’s earnings performance.

Investors also focused on Circle’s recently approved bank charter, which Allaire believes will create new business opportunities beyond issuing stablecoins.

Consequently, he said the charter will allow parts of the reserves supporting USD Coin to move into the trust bank. He also said it will enable Circle to provide custody services for stablecoins and other tokenized assets tied to real-world investments.

Allaire added that the company views digital custody as an important long-term growth opportunity as financial assets increasingly move onto blockchain-based networks.
