China’s AgiBot formally opens 1st overseas robotics centre in Malaysia

International partnerships have been helping Malaysia advance its robotics sector

Shanghai-headquartered robotics innovator AgiBot celebrated a major expansion in Southeast Asia this week.

On Jan. 13, the company opened its first overseas robotics facility in Selangor, Malaysia. Chang Lih Kang, Malaysia’s science and tech minister, officiated the launch of the nation’s new AI and Robotics Experience Centre at i-City. He was joined by government dignitaries, tech enthusiasts and industry leaders.

The facility spans 2,000 square metres. It was developed through a partnership with Malaysian property developer I-Bhd (KLSE: IBHD).

AgiBot’s new complex serves as an immersive showcase for its AI-integrated humanoid and quadruped robots. It allows visitors to experience interacting with these futuristic creations.

Tasks and activities they will perform in the presence of guests include dancing, engaging in conversations, handling various objects and navigating obstacles.

Aside from entertainment, the centre aims to promote deployment of robots in multiple sectors. These include hospitality, tourism, property management and healthcare.

At the event, AgiBot founder Deng Taihua educated attendees about the company’s recent progress, including the significant milestone of shipping its 5,000th humanoid robot last year.

AgiBot’s robot lineup has a diverse array of capabilities. These models can perform everything from dancing and inspecting terrain to cleaning tasks, household chores and intricate tasks that have historically required human hands. One of AgiBot’s latest creations, the Q1 humanoid, can fit inside a backpack.

Within China’s highly competitive industry, AgiBot stands out as a leader and top global shipper of humanoids. It holds a 39 per cent market share, according to data from British research firm Omdia.

The tech specialist’s robots were recently in that spotlight at CES 2026 when NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ: NVDA) (ETR: NVD) CEO Jensen Huang featured AgiBot during a keynote on artificial intelligence.
