AWS outage leaves Eight Sleep Pod users sweaty and confused

The sleep tech company apologized and said it was working to make its product outage-proof

Those who own a popular and expensive sleep tech mattress system were unpleasantly surprised on Monday night when it unexpectedly stopped working. These devices start at approximately US$2,000.

An Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN) (FRA: AMZ) Web Services outage left many Eight Sleep Pod users disoriented, hot and stuck in uncomfortable positions.

Eight Sleep’s Chief Executive Officer promptly addressed the problem on social media and said his team was working diligently to prevent a similar occurrence from happening again.

“We will work the whole night +24/7 to build an outage mode so the problem will be fixed extremely quickly,” stated Matteo Franceschetti on X.

The Eight Sleep Pod system is one of the most popular sleep tech products on the market and reviews have been positive for the most part, despite the high price point. This marks the first time that the mattress technology has experienced a major malfunction that impacted sleepers so negatively.

Certain frustrated product holders took to Reddit Inc (NYSE: RDDT) to voice their frustration about the episode.

“Just woke up at 3 a.m. because I was sweating and realized bed wasn’t cooling and couldn’t login to the app,” said one user. “The side buttons on my Pod 5 won’t even work to control the temperature.”

Meanwhile, others said the glitch left them stuck in inclined or various awkward resting places.

Amazon Web Services revealed in a news release that Domain Name System resolution issues were the cause of the outage.

Despite the negative technological mishap, Eight Sleep has reported significant successes this year.

In August, the sleep technology innovator pulled US$100 million together in a funding round led by Chinese venture capital firms and supercar racing figures.

Eight Sleep has raised over US$260 million to date and hit half a billion in sales revenue in mid-2025. The Pod can be found in the bedrooms of wealthy individuals throughout 35 nations.
