Oral hygiene is one of the latest applications that artificial intelligence has been proving its worth for. Multiple brands have been integrating the technology into their toothbrushes to offer customers a superior experience.
Renowned manufacturer Oral-B has one of these devices on sale at the moment. It is currently going for US$99.99 on Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN) (FRA: AMZ).
The Oral-B Genius X is equipped with an artificial intelligence-powered brush tracking feature that will tell a person how to improve their technique. They may be brushing too hard in certain areas or not far back enough, etc.
Other popular brands have created their own variations. The Philips Sonicare 9900 Prestige, a product of Koninklijke Philips NV (NYSE: PHG) (ETR: PHI1), is a more expensive option that uses “SenseIQ [AI] technology” to perform the same type of brush tracking as Oral-B’s with more advanced sensors and precision. CNET, a renowned product review publication, recently had a look at it and said the only con was the US$380-dollar price tag.
These are far from the most advanced to emerge since the AI revolution started though. One gadget developed by a less-well-known American company, Feno, cleans a person’s mouth with 18,000 bristles and transmits oral health data to a smartphone app.
It provides personalized insights with the help of a built-in camera and cuts the amount of time an individual needs to spend scrubbing their chompers down to only 20 seconds.
“I slipped it in, pressed start, and it felt like my teeth were being gently power-washed and massaged at the same time,” described writer Peter Salib in a product review article from Grit Daily this week. “The clean was so even and complete, I actually ran my tongue over my teeth twice just to make sure I wasn’t imagining it.”
Also of significant interest is the Dental Monitoring apparatus. It gets hooked up to a phone and provides users with a comprehensive dental health report. Over 170 dentists and scientists developed the technology.
It enables orthodontists to monitor their patients’ treatment progress remotely. The gadget is FDA-certified in this regard.
A startup has created a device called Dental Monitoring that attaches to your smartphone & fits into your mouth. Using built-in AI, it examines your oral cavity and provides advice on whether you need dental care. The device can accurately detect 89% of dental diseases.
