Sleep tech ring leader ŌURA launches AI model for women’s health

ŌURA has a long-standing focus on female well-being

Sleep technology pioneer Oura has unveiled its first proprietary AI model for women’s health.

Launched on Feb. 24, the custom large language model transforms the Oura Advisor chatbot into a personalized, clinically-focused companion that provides evidence-based insights about the entire reproductive journey. From early menstrual cycles through fertility, pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause, it aims to serve as the ultimate female artificial intelligence model assistant.

The debut follows years of commitment to women’s health among company leaders. Multiple positions at Oura are specifically dedicated to this niche of health and wellness. Key figureheads in this field include Neta Gotlieb, Women’s Health Product Lead; and Inessa Lurye, VP of Product, Women’s Health.

It also follows the sleep tech ring creator launching the Period Prediction feature in fall of 2022, Cycle Insights in 2023 (with major updates for irregular cycles in 2025), Fertile Window in 2024 and enhanced Pregnancy Insights in 2025. The ring’s accurate temperature sensing and biometric tracking have long helped women understand their bodies better.

“It’s built on clinically validated women’s health research and guidelines, carefully curated and reviewed by our in-house team of clinicians and women’s health experts, and combined with each member’s Oura data to put symptoms and patterns in context,” said Oura Chief Medical Officer Ricky Bloomfield.

This new AI model, now available for experimentation in the Oura Labs section of the company’s app, integrates seamlessly with the Oura Ring. It continuously gathers more than 50 biometric signals — including body temperature trends, sleep patterns, heart rate variability, activity levels, stress and cycle or pregnancy data. Members now have the opportunity to provide feedback about the LLM as Oura seeks to fine-tune it.

When users ask Oura Advisor a women’s health question, the specialized model instantly pulls their ring data alongside a vetted library of medical standards and research reviewed by Oura’s clinicians and obstetrician-gynecologist experts.

The AI then crafts tailored responses that connect personal metrics to real physiology. For instance, it may explain why a user’s cycle suddenly turned irregular, highlight what her temperature and sleep data reveal or suggest key points to discuss with her doctor.

While the feature shows strong promise in addressing gaps left by general-purpose AI tools, it remains in early testing via Oura Labs. Potential limitations exist like with any AI, such as the risk of hallucinations or over-reliance by users.

Oura has placed a high priority on privacy with this tool, emphasizing that all conversations are strictly confidential.
