Global Tactical Metals pulls Nevada grab sample with 17.7% antimony

The find came from a past-producing antimony mine with renewed interest

Global Tactical Metals Corp (CNSX: MONI) (FRA: A7F) has been taking an interest in a past-producing antimony (Sb) operation in the state of Nevada. The enthusiasm comes amid record high prices and soaring demand for the critical mineral in the United States.

On Wednesday, the junior mining company revealed that it had received an assay result from a grab sample at the Green Mine with an exceptional grade of 17.7 per cent Sb. Anything containing 10 per cent or more is generally considered to be high-grade.

The find comes from the first round of sampling Global Tactical Metals has completed at the site. The penny stock operator is currently awaiting more results from samples taken earlier this month.

Historically, the Pershing County mine site in discussion produced more than 46 tons of antimony during the mid-20th century and yielded samples with grades as high as 32.95 per cent Sb. As antimony has become a hot commodity over the past year and a half, the junior operator feels getting the operation back in action could be a profitable endeavour.

“Antimony prices surged by 192 per cent in 2024, reaching US$38,000 per tonne, underscoring its importance in energy storage and defence applications,” the company has highlighted.

Antimony’s bull run sped up even more in December when China decided to cut off its supply to the U.S. The proceeding national security concerns among the Americans have brought the defence tech component into the spotlight.

The U.S. wants its own stockpile

This metalloid element is crucial for military electronics, ammunition and weapons. Many expensive modern warfare products cannot be made without it. Additionally, there are currently no producing antimony mines of scale in the U.S., making reliance on foreign suppliers essential for the time being.

Other junior miners in Nevada like NevGold Corp (CVE: NAU) (OTCMKTS: NAUFF) (FRA: 5E50) have also been enhancing their antimony focus. White House officials aim to fast track development of domestic antimony projects for national security purposes, which could be highly beneficial for these two junior operators in the years to come.

Samples taken from NevGold’s flagship Limousine Butte project in White Pine County have had grades as high as 9.6 per cent Sb. In recent months, NevGold has had a steady stream of drill results showing consistent antimony mineralization at the development-stage site.

In Idaho, the American Department of Defense has spent about US$75 million on the Stibnite gold-antimony project run by Perpetua Resources Corp (TSE: PPTA) (NASDAQ: PPTA) to help get more antimony circulating in the national supply chain as soon as possible.
