Delta 9 Cannabis Inc. (TSX: DN) (OTCQX: DLTNF) has successfully made its first international shipment consisting of dried cannabis flower to an unnamed Australian customer.

The Winnipeg-based company announced the accomplishment on Monday and now also plans to ship approximately 100 kilograms of dried cannabis flower and six kilograms of distillate to the Australian market by the end of Q2.

Health Canada recently provided Delta 9 with seven export permits needed for continued international distribution.

The company says entering the international market will enable it to generate more revenue and hopes that more country’s will lift restrictions on the plant and purchase Canadian pot.

“This shipment is our first step of many planned sales into the Australian medical cannabis market,” said John Arbuthnot, CEO of Delta 9 Cannabis.

“We see significant emerging market opportunities in international markets playing out over the next several years and anticipate that exports of cannabis products will become a key growth driver for us.”

Canadian companies are capitalizing on international markets

Delta B.C.-based Village Farms International, Inc. (NASDAQ: VFF) is another publicly traded Canadian company with international cannabis sales initiatives.

The company announced at the beginning of this year that it would start sending its Pure Sunfarms cannabis to Israel for medical use there. Village Farms also plans on marketing its pot in Australia and Germany in the near future.

Calgary’s Decibel Cannabis Company Inc. (TSX-V: DB) (OTCQB: DBCCF) also completed its first international shipment to a pharmaceutical firm in Israel last November under the terms of a $4.8 million supply agreement.
