American medical cannabis provider Trulieve Cannabis Corp. (CSE: TRUL) (OTCQX: TCNNF) is encouraging women, veterans and people with disabilities who own small businesses to become its suppliers.

On Wednesday, the leading retailer launched a supplier diversity initiative, which it says provides education and professional development while creating business relationships in the communities it serves.

The campaign aims to showcase how industry leaders can positively impact local businesses while promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.

Trulieve is currently seeking partnerships with diverse suppliers working with some organizations and attending council events.

The company said that after it entered Georgia, it’s allocated a “significant” portion of its supplier contracts to local minority, women and veteran-owned companies.

Mugglehead has reached out to Trulieve asking for information on the local businesses it’s teamed up with.

“As Trulieve broadens its services and operations, we look forward to establishing new professional relationships with diverse business owners who wish to be active participants in this rapidly growing sector,” CEO Kim Rivers said in a statement.

The company’s diversity initiatives were first mentioned in the company’s environment, social, and governance report published in November last year.

The company is a corporate member of groups representing women, veterans and members of the LGBT community, including the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, Veterans in Business Network, Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, National Minority Supplier Development Council and Disability Inclusion.

The company has dispensaries in Arizona, Florida and Pennsylvania. On Wednesday, it opened a new medical cannabis store in Boca Raton, Florida.
