International operator Khiron Life Sciences Corp. (TSXV: KHRN) (OTCQX: KHRNF) (Frankfurt: A2JMZC) is set to enter Mexico’s cannabis market through a partnership with the country’s largest organization focused on fundraising for children’s health care.
On Tuesday, the Toronto-headquartered company with primary operations in Latin America said the partnership with Fundación Teletón will bring medical cannabis to more than 24 medical centres across Mexico.
Fundación Teletón started in 1997 and has provided funding for 22 rehabilitation centres for disabled children, one centre specializing in autism and one children’s hospital for cancer. The facilities offer treatment to around 600,000 children with disabilities, cancer and autism.
The company has been authorized to use controlled substances under international conventions from Mexico’s regulatory agency COFEPRIS to import CBD and THC products into the country.
Khiron will establish its Zerenia medical cannabis clinics under the non-profit’s network of clinics, and distribute its products at Teletón’s pharmacies.

Every December, Teletón organizes an annual 24-hour TV and radio broadcast to raise money for its facilities. It’s produced by the largest TV station in the country, Televisa, which usually attracts thousands of viewers from celebrity presentations. In 2021, the organization raised over $387 million pesos or around C$24 million.
Teletón is part of Oritel, which is an international organization of 12 countries that aim to provide rehabilitation and other medical services for children and adolescents.
Teletón corporate medical director Arturo Pichard says both organizations complement each other perfectly with their patient-centred approach.
“This partnership is good news for patients with various medical conditions throughout Mexico,” he adds.

The company has also partnered with the Mexican university Tecnologico de Monterrey to offer medical cannabis training to health professionals based on Khiron’s educational programs and evidence collected at its Zerenia clinics in Latin America.
“The establishment of Khiron’s Zerenia medical cannabis clinics in Teleton’s medical centers is only the beginning of our go-to-market strategy and medical partnerships in Mexico,” CEO Alvaro Torres said.
“We are focused on delivering the highest quality and best care to patients and ongoing education to doctors and communities at large.”
Khiron has Zerenia clinics in Colombia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Peru and Brazil. The company says it’s currently securing import permits to start commercial sales in Mexico.
