Verses Technologies (NEO:VERS) opened its sensor fusion lab and research facility in Culver City, California.

The new lab puts Verses’ portfolio on display, including COSM, the company’s artificial intelligence operating system, as well as giving Verses’ data science and product development teams a space to work on solutions based on sensor fusion research techniques.

“Today, autonomous vehicles use sensor fusion in the form of radar, lidar, and cameras to model real-time scenes of their environment in order to safely navigate the streets around them. With our COSM operating system we can apply the same sensor fusion techniques and capabilities in areas such as warehouses, manufacturing plants, shipping ports, mines and retail environments to further enable automation and AI-driven applications,” said Gabriel Rene, founder and CEO of Verses.

Verses is a tech company dealing in artificial intelligence, providing foundational technology for the computing era. The COSM operating system is modelled after natural systems and the principle designs of the human brain. It’s an AI operating system for enhancing applications with adaptive intelligence, capable of transforming disparate data into universal context that can foster collaborations between humans, machines and AI.

Sensors and artificial intelligence

Sensor fusion is the process of integrated multiple data sources from various sensors in order to get an accurate and useful understanding of objects and their environments. The company states that it’s the key to getting AI to better understand the context of a real-world environment and therefore the ability to make better decisions an optimize its activities.

The technology is commonly references in the context of autonomous vehicles, but sensor fusion has multiple different case uses based on a number of different industries, including entertainment, security, warehouses, manufacturing and supply chains. Right now there’s the focus on smart cities, smart healthcare and such things as aerial navigation and robotics in terms of artificial intelligence, but the company says it could easily stretch far beyond that to reach core sectors of the world economy.

The new facility will bring together customers, partners and investors to experience the company’s research across multiple disciplines, like interaction with 3D digital twins, mixed-reality warehouse picking using Microsoft Hololens, and drone regulatory compliance solutions.

Nalantis NV was one of the first to partner with Verses—gathering together to co-develop a drone-centric, interoperable regulatory framework powered by the COSM operating system for operators, drones and regulatory authorities.

“The opportunity to collaborate with peers from the Verses Sensor Fusion Research Facility and demonstrate how this technology is shaping the future of urban air mobility is, quite frankly, exhilarating. We are excited to continue working together as we advance our vision to become a leading natural language understanding company,” said Stephen Lernout, chief strategy and innovation officer at Nalantis.

Beyond that, the company is mapping the geospatial digital infrastructure for autonomous drones to operate within.
